Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, conducted a site visit to the Sewerage Network Project in Block 1016, Al Lawzi, and Block 1203, Hamad Town, to review the progress of works and the current implementation stages. The visit was attended by Engineer Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Engineer Fathi Abdulla Al Farea, Assistant Undersecretary for Sanitary Engineering, and several ministry engineers.
During the visit, the Minister of Works affirmed that the ministry continues its efforts to develop sewerage services and expand the coverage of this vital service, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the aspirations of citizens across the Kingdom's governorates.
He noted that the Sewerage Network Project in Block 1016, Al Lawzi, and Block 1203, Hamad Town forms part of the Ministry of Works' strategic plan to further develop infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of sewerage services in line with the urban expansion taking place across the Kingdom of Bahrain. He added that the project includes the construction of a new sewerage network through trench excavation and horizontal directional drilling to serve 968 properties across the two blocks.
The minister also received a detailed briefing on the project's progress, which has reached 70% completion. He stressed the importance of maintaining the current pace of implementation in accordance with the approved schedule, highlighting the project's role in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the sewerage system in the area.
The project includes the construction of approximately 15 kilometers of main sewer lines with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 1,000 mm, in addition to around 10 kilometers of 150 mm-diameter lateral sewer lines. The works also include the construction of 754 manholes and a new pumping station with a capacity of 650 litters per second, further enhancing the network's efficiency and ensuring service continuity.
The project was awarded by the Tender Board to Abdulhadi Al-Afoo Contracting Company and is being supervised by the consulting firm Stantec Khonji.
