Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, accompanied by Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, and Engineer Ahmed Sami Al Tajer, Assistant Undersecretary for Roads, paid an inspection visit to the Isa Town North Interchange Development Project to review the progress of works.
The Isa Town North Interchange Development Project is one of the Kingdom's strategic infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the road network, improving traffic flow, and strengthening connectivity between several key areas in Bahrain, including Riffa, A'ali, Sanad, Salmabad, and Isa Town.
During the visit, the Minister of Works affirmed that upon completion, the project will increase the junction's capacity to more than 160,000 vehicles per day, contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion, particularly along Shaikh Salman Highway, which links the Capital, Northern and Southern Governorates.
The minister stressed the importance of accelerating the pace of work while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. He also underscored the need to implement all necessary measures to minimize the impact of construction works on traffic movement and ensure smooth traffic flow, in addition to maintaining continuous coordination with the relevant authorities to achieve the project's objectives.
During the visit, the minister reviewed the concrete casting works for the main bridge deck, along with the progress of the remaining project works.
The project includes the construction of a three-lane flyover in each direction to provide uninterrupted traffic flow along Shaikh Salman Highway. It also involves the upgrade of the at-grade junction through the installation of traffic signals at Salmabad Road and Oman Avenue. Associated works include the construction of a stormwater drainage network, road paving, pavement improvements, landscaping and beautification works, and the provision of traffic safety requirements.
The project was awarded by the Tender Board to a consortium comprising Alghanim International and Almoayyed Contracting Group.
