Eng. Ebrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, announced the launch of the tender for the first phase of the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Development Project, one of the Kingdom's key strategic road projects aimed at further enhancing infrastructure efficiency in support of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Minister highlighted the strong support provided by the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, for strategic road network projects, including the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Development Project. He underscored the committee's commitment to ensuring the project is delivered according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency and within the approved timeline, contributing to improved traffic flow and strengthening the Kingdom's advanced road infrastructure.
The Minister explained that the development of Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway, which links the capital, Manama, with the Sitra Industrial Area and extends to the Southern Governorate, will directly support the logistics sector and freight transportation, thereby enhance commercial and economic activity while facilitate the movement of road users.
He affirmed that the Ministry of Works is simultaneously completing the studies and designs for the subsequent phases of the project to ensure the full development of the highway in accordance with the comprehensive master plan. He also highlighted the ongoing coordination among all relevant government entities to deliver the project in line with the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
For his part, Engineer Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, stated that the first phase of the project extends approximately two kilometers, beginning beyond Nuwaidrat Junction and ending near the Applied Science University.
He noted that this phase includes the construction of a dual carriageway featuring four lanes in each direction, in addition to service roads on both sides to ensure smooth traffic movement for the surrounding areas.
He added that the construction works include excavation and earthworks, the installation of advanced utility networks equipped with pumping stations, the construction of underground utility ducts, the enhancement of supporting infrastructure services, and the installation of all necessary traffic signs and directional signage. He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to delivering infrastructure projects in accordance with the highest engineering standards and specifications, ensuring the sustainability of the Kingdom's road network and the achievement of the project's intended objectives.
