The Ministry of Works held a workshop on updating the Roads Designs Manual in the Kingdom of Bahrain by the Consultants Scott Wilson. The workshop aimed to update the chapter highlighting the development of technical services provided for people with special needs in the field of roads. Present in the workshop was the Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Huda Abdullah Fakhro.

The consultants delivered a presentation on services provided for people with special needs worldwide, and how this can be applied in the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially in relation to parking spaces in public places, governmental establishments and at home. The workshop also highlighted services to be provided at stations, bus stops, pedestrian crossings and intersections, in addition to providing an audio method to identify the right of way at pedestrians’ traffic lights. Pedestrian pavements to isolate pedestrians from the path of vehicles and protect them from potential accidents will also be provided through the installation of a new type of cobbles on pavements leading to pedestrians signals. The new cobbled pavements include protrusions different from other pavements, which provide safe crossing to the blind.
