The Ministry of Works received a delegation from Turkey, represented by Counselor for Political & Economic & Security Affairs at the Turkish Embassy Mr. Tolga Sezai Simsir, and Commercial Counselor  Mr. Mehmet Akif Gok, to discuss issues related to infrastructure projects between the Turkish Republic and the Kingdom of Bahrain and closely familiarize with the Ministry’s many tasks and responsibilities as a leading professional organization that provides high quality infrastructure services to the people of Bahrain.

The delegation was welcomed by the Ministry’s Undersecretary Nayef Omar Al Kalali, Sanitary Engineering Assistant Undersecretary Khalifa Al Mansoor, Roads Assistant Undersecretary Huda Fakhro, the Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Services Ahmed Al Khayyat, Cost Engineering Director Mariam Al Yahya and Public Relations & Media Director Fahad Buallay.

During the meeting, Cost Engineering Director Mariam Al Yahya delivered a presentation on the main tasks and responsibilities of the Cost Engineering Directorate, which include the prequalification of local and international contractors, and also GCC contractors for MoW’s projects and projects for other government ministries, and the awarding of tenders in coordination with Bahrain’s Tender Board. She also emphasized the Ministry’s keenness to ensure that international standards are adopted in all projects, according to approved contracts and Bahrain’s tenders’ law.   

‘The Cost Engineering Directorate is responsible for preparing estimated cost for projects during the design phase, prepare and award different tenders, evaluate tender bids, evaluate the legal and financial aspects of tenders, prepare payment certificates following site visits to different projects, prepare final costs for projects, select eligible contractors and follow up the Ministry’s various purchases,’ said Al Yahya.

She also highlighted the different types of tenders, which include construction projects tenders, building maintenance tenders, sanitary engineering tenders, roads tenders, IT tenders, Human and Financial Resources tenders, services tenders and many others.

HE the Undersecretary Nayef Al Kalali highlighted the prequalification process for different projects; explaining that interested contractors can register online, whether for a new application or re-evaluation. He also referred to terms for special MoW’s contracts and the Standard Technical Specifications for Construction Works.

At the end of the meeting, the Turkish delegation hailed the Ministry’s efforts aiming to provide high quality services and their role in providing opportunities for international companies to take part in international tenders in full transparency.
