The Construction Project Directorate (CPD) of the Ministry of Works is continuing its’ contribution to the Education sector in  the Kingdom of Bahrain by executing construction projects at two government schools in Riffa. The CPD is undergoing construction of two academic buildings and a multi-purpose hall at West Riffa Boys Primary School and academic building at Malik Bin Anas Boys Primary School, which set to cater to the growing number of students in the area and will significantly improve facilities for students in order to facilitate the educational process in these schools.

The new two-storey academic building being constructed on 1207 square-metres site at Malik Bin Anas School is estimated to cost BD 457,000. The building, which is expected to be completed by the end of May 2010, will contain 10 new classrooms and will cater to an additional 250 students.

Similarly, the academic building at the West Riffa School will be a two-storey block on 1207 square meters comprised of 8 classrooms and Technology and Computer Labs. An additional 811 square metre multi-purpose hall is also being constructed at West Riffa School, and will serve a wide variety of purposes that will enhance students’ educational and recreational fulfillment. The academic building and multi-purpose hall are expected to be completed by April 2010, with the cost of the new facilities expecting to total BD 746,000.

Both construction developments at the respective schools will be fully functional, and will contain associated external works and have drainage systems in place. Mona Al-Mutawa, Construction Projects Director commented: "Both projects are being constructed according to our high quality standards applied in the Ministry’s projects, and will fulfill the growing need for additional classroom and recreational space for schools in Riffa. These developments are a representation of the premium facilities that the Ministry of Works has been constructing in schools so that the quality of education in Bahrain is not hindered, but rather, further aided."

The CPD, the body responsible for the design, supervision, execution and quality control of public sector building projects in Bahrain has undertaken several initiatives this year to enhance educational facilities in the Kingdom. Earlier in 2009, the CPD spent a total of BD 831 957 on the construction of additional buildings at a Girls Secondary School in Hidd and a Boys Primary School in Askar. Such projects that develop infrastructure in Bahrain’s schools are leading examples of the Ministry of Works’ strong stance as a socially responsible organization which places public interest at the top of its priorities.
