Bahrain’s delegation to the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety returned from the conference, which took place from 19-20 November in Moscow, Russia, and was sponsored by the United Nations.


The delegation was headed by Ministry of Transportation Undersecretary, Sh. Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Undersecretary of Public Works Affairs, Nayef Omar Al-Kalali, and also included Director of Roads Planning and Design, Huda Fakhro, and Senior Civil Engineer Mariam Essa from Works Ministry, Director of Administrative Affairs, Arif Al Mansoori, from Ministry of Transportation, Majors Mohammed Al Nuaimi and Khalid Rabea from the Ministry of Interior. 


The 1st Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Moscow is seen as one of the major global events of 2009; and attracted up to 1000-2000 participants from all over the world. It was opened by the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev.


The two day conference was the first to tackle the problem of road safety at a global level and with the support of the United Nations.


The Moscow Conference united those a great number of people dedicated to improving the safety of roads and developing a comprehensive and shared approach to the problem, where Ministers responsible for road safety gathered to make key decisions on global road safety through the exchange of best practices in road safety programs.

The global event highlighted various studies and solutions in road safety, through a number of extensive plenary sessions and panel discussions. Additional events also took place within the two day event, including an official reception for heads of delegations.
