MoW’s Building Maintenance Director Eng. Huda Mirza revealed that the total number of government buildings for which the Building Maintenance Directorate is responsible and whose data were updated in 2013 reached 293 building complexes, consisting of 2199 buildings. The total number of maintenance applications from government organizations in 2013 amounted to 1273, from which the Ministry managed to carry out 1175 applications. The main maintenance project carried out in 2013 was the maintenance of 41 government schools belonging to the Ministry of Education at a cost of BD2,447,817; aiming to enhance the efficiency and performance of schools and support the educational process in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Other projects also included the full maintenance and painting work at Awal Kindergarten and Ibn Khaldoon Social Centre in Arad, general maintenance and water insulation works at the Bahrain Centre for Strategic and International Researches and Energy, in addition to full maintenance and painting works at the sanitary centre in Salmabad and the National Bank of Bahrain Home for the Elderly. The Ministry of Works also carried out preventive maintenance works to a number of buildings, which are MoW’s Building Maintenance Directorate, 50 schools belonging to the Ministry of Education, the Constitutional Court at Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre, MoW’s Materials Engineering Directorate and the Ministry’s main headquarters in Manama. ‘The budget allocated for building maintenance was increased from BD4 million in 2013 to BD5 million in 2014, which reflects the Government’s keenness to maintain governmental building and provide high quality services to people,’ said Al Mutawa. In 2014, the Building Maintenance Directorate has set out a plan to expand the range of its services according to MoW’s quality standards, which will include maintaining governmental buildings taking into account the needs of people with disabilities. The plan also supports the green buildings initiative.
