MoW’s Undersecretary Waleed Al Saei revealed that the Ministry has completed the revamp of Estiqlal Highway, whose modern design goes in harmony with the design of modern cities. According to the Undersecretary Al Saei, the project is considered to be a big leap when it comes to traffic movement. Al Saei explained that the revamp of the highway, which has now become 2.7km long, has enormously contributed to alleviating traffic congestions.
‘The BD2.7 million project was implemented by Bahrain Asphalt, while work was supervised and managed by a team from the Ministry’s Special Projects Department at the Roads Projects & Maintenance Directorate,’ said Undersecretary Al Saei. ‘Works involved in the project consisted of 3 phases; phase 1 comprised revamp works covering the part that links Alba Roundabout to Sanad Interchange, while phase 2 covered the revamp of the part from Sanad Interchange to Al Hikma School.
Phase 3 comprised revamping the part extending from Al Hikma School to Isa Town Gate flyovers, in addition to replacing the Media Roundabout with a traffic-signal controlled interchange.’ explained Al Saei. Municipal Council Member at District 9 in the Central Governorate Abdul Razzaq Al Hattab lauded the efforts extended by the Ministry of Works to revamp Estiqlal Highway, which reflect the Government’s keenness to improve the Kingdom’s infrastructure and roads. Upon the completion of the project, the Ministry of Works coordinated with the Ministry of Municipalities & Urban Planning Affairs to implement beautification and landscaping works at the project location.
