HE Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, Minister of Works received at his office Southern Municipality Municipal Council Chairman Mr. Mohsin Al Bakri who discussed the road and parking facilities required for the First and Second Constituencies of the Governorate. The specific demand made by Municipal Councilors focused on developments for the Safra-Wadi Alseel Road, Block 906 West Riffa, development of Shaikh Ahmed bin Salman Road (formerly Road 545) in East Riffa, development of Jarrada Road and building rainwater drainage reservoir at Block 911 (due to the difficulties experienced during the rainy season).
Also requested were road maintenance at Blocks 901, 903, 905, 907 and 909 and providing access to secondary roads (at Shaikh Isa Road, Road 771) and development of Shaikh Humood bin Sabah Road (Block 901 and 903). The required facilities include development of car parks at a number of key locations including the Abdulla Al Ghatam Mosque, Block 911, Salman bin Daij Mosque, Block 903 and East Riffa Health Centre, Block 903 in addition to two sanitary drainage projects in East Riffa. Both projects were launched in March 2011 (In two Phases E6 – E7) and it is hoped to complete the final phase in June 2013.
The Minister expressed his pride in the ongoing co-operation between the Ministry of Works and Municipal Councils in general and reiterated the need for further meetings and closer communication between the Ministry of Works and all Municipal Councils throughout the Kingdom.
