The Ministry of Works’ (MoW) Assistant Undersecretary for Roads, Engineer Huda Abdullah Fakhro, carried out an inspection visit to the Hatim Al Tai Road, located between Al Houd al Jaf, and Street 46 in Muharraq, to examine in person the latest developments in the project. Ms Fakhro was accompanied by Mr. Nasser Al Mahmeed, the President of the Muharraq Municipal Council, and other senior figures from the Ministry and Municipality. The road, which has been under development since February, is now 48% complete and progress was found to be satisfactory.

The works include lengthening the road to approximately 4.2 kilometers, with 2 lanes in each direction, plus construction of service roads and parking on the east and north sides. In addition, footpaths are being constructed and traffic lights installed at several intersections to improve traffic flows. New lighting and traffic markings and other safety improvements are also being undertaken, as well as installation of improved storm water drainage systems. During the visit, the various phases involved in the project were highlighted, as were the challenges facing the project’s progress and procedures undertaken to ensure the safety of the public and workers. The upgrade work on Hatim Al Tai road will cost approximately BD5 million. Senior figures, including the Minister of Works, regularly inspect progress on such projects throughout the year to ensure timely completion and public satisfaction.
