HE the Minister of Works Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, accompanied by southern area Governor HE Sh. Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, visited Hawar Jetty Project, adjacent to the Hawar Hotel.  Their Excellencies were briefed on the Project by Mr. Cunningham from the Ministry’s Special Projects Office.

The jetty should be able to moor 20 vessels up to 90ft long with deep water access and navigation markers, while marine works comprise of beakwaters to shelter the marina, reclamation platform for buildings, harbour basin and access channel dredged to -3.5m chart datum, and navigation marks in accordance with GOP requirements. The Marine Works contract was awarded to Al Hassanain Company.

The project also includes pontoon works, which comprise of Floating Pontoons for 2 vessels @ 90ft, 2 vessels @ 60ft, 2 vessels @ 50ft, 14 vessels @ 30ft, and 2 Coastguard vessels @ 52ft. The Pontoon Works contract was awarded to Systems & Technology.
Building Works involved in the project comprise of a building to be shared between the Coastguard and a Harbourmaster located next to the marina on the reclaimed land.  The building has one office for the harbourmaster and a guard room for a Ministry of Interior guard.  The rest of the building is dedicated to the Coastguard and has a dormitory for 4 persons, a rest room, ablution facilities, inside and outside kitchen, stores and, on the 1st floor, an observation room, in addition to other related facilities. The Building Works Contract was awarded to Alwardi Construction.

As part of the Project, the existing jetty, which has partially collapsed will be removed.  Special care is being taken to ensure that the works comply with strict environmental protection measures in this sensitive area.  The works are on target for completion in April 2012.
