HE Works’ Undersecretary Nayef Omar Al Kalali visited Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant location, accompanied by Sanitary Engineering Assistant Undersecretary Khalifa Ebrahim Al Mansoor, Planning & Projects Director Eng. Asma Murad, Project Manager En. Faeq Mohammed, the team from the consortium in charge of implementation (Samsung, Abu Dhabi for Investment and United Utilities) and project contractors.

During the visit, Al Kalali explained that the new plant in Muharraq, once operational after 30 months from the day of commencement, will accommodate urban growth in Muharraq and ease pressure on Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant, which will positively improve health and environment conditions. The plant is managed using advanced technology that conform to international standards and measures adopted in this field.

Design and construction works commenced following the signing of the project contract with the consortium in 2nd February 2011. Phase 1 of the project; consisting of the treatment plant and conveyance system, will complete in October 2013, while phase 2; consisting of conveyance system networks connections, will complete in October 2014.

According to the agreement signed with the implementing consortium, the new plant will have a capacity of an additional 100.000 cubic metres, to be increased by 60.000 cubic metres in phase 2, which will make the total capacity of the plant 160.000 cubic metres.
