The Ministry of Works (MOW) is presently undertaking 2 projects namely; 1)Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant Reclamation (MuSTP) and 2) Bahrain Approach Channel Dredging (BACD) to the new Khalifa Bin Salman Port at Hidd. Both of these projects are being executed by M/S Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD).
The MuSTP project involves reclamation of about 15 hectares of platform in the sea on the north side of the new KBSDP. This platform will be accessed via a new causeway of about 500 metres length from the new Arterial Road connecting the new port with the Industrial Area. The construction works have started and scheduled for completion in April 2010.
The Bahrain Approach Channel Dredging Works involve deepening the existing approach channel which starts from the Sitra Beacon and runs north / north-east direction for a length of about 65km. The dredging works will commence in November 2008 and will be completed by the end of July 2009. The contractor will use Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers to dredge the channel and transport dredged materials to a dumping area.
Both of the projects operate on round-the-clock basis by and involve heavy movement of dredging vessels, a fleet of support vessels and floating pipelines.
The Ministry of Works wishes to inform the public expecially those involved in marine operations in and around the area to keep clear of the work area.
