Eng. Abdulnabi Hassan Al Koofi, Director of Sanitary Engineering Operation & Maintenance Directorate at the Ministry of Works, affirmed that cleaning and maintenance works on rainwater drainage networks are continuing across the various governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain as part of preparations for the rainy season. He noted that the works carried out include cleaning rainwater drainage inlets and networks, as well as maintaining pumping stations at several locations, thereby enhancing the readiness and efficiency of drainage networks in handling rainfall events.

The Director of Sanitary Engineering Operation & Maintenance Directorate explained that cleaning and maintenance works are carried out under an ongoing year-round programmed, with efforts intensified before, during and after the rainy season. This is aimed at ensuring the readiness of rainwater drainage networks and sewerage facilities and enhancing their capacity to accommodate water volumes and reduce water accumulation on roads and in various areas.

He added that the works include cleaning rainwater drainage inlets, chambers and inspection chambers, using high-pressure tankers to clean networks and remove sediment, as well as cleaning collection tanks and soak away tanks, maintaining rainwater pumping stations, and ensuring the readiness of outfalls leading to the sea and water storage tanks.

Eng. Al Koofi pointed out that the accumulation of soil, agricultural debris and waste, including leaves and plastic bags, may obstruct drainage inlets and reduce their efficiency. This necessitates the continuation of regular cleaning and maintenance works. He added that the works also include addressing cases of certain tanks becoming full due to the accumulation of surface water, including water resulting from washing houses and vehicles.

The Director of Sanitary Engineering Operation & Maintenance Directorate affirmed the Ministry of Works' commitment to carrying out cleaning and maintenance works on main roads during evening hours whenever possible, in order to minimize their impact on traffic flow. He also highlighted the continued monitoring of the readiness of drainage networks, pumping stations and related facilities, thereby enhancing infrastructure efficiency and its capacity to handle rainwater.
