His Excellency Eng. Ebrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Works, affirmed the Ministry's commitment to contributing to national efforts aimed at expanding green spaces and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources. This aligns with the objectives of the afforestation plan and the Kingdom of Bahrain's pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2060. It also supports the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa—may God protect and preserve him—and follows the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may God protect and preserve him.
This came as the Ministry of Works participated in the "Tree Week" initiative, launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. During the event, the Minister planted a tree on the grounds of the Ministry of Works building in the Tubli area.
The Minister explained that the Ministry's participation in this initiative is an extension of its ongoing efforts to integrate infrastructure projects with environmental conservation requirements. This is achieved by adopting sustainable practices and incorporating green elements into road and public service building projects, in coordination with relevant authorities.
He further highlighted the Ministry's focus on enhancing afforestation within its projects and adopting initiatives that contribute to increasing green spaces and improving the urban landscape, thereby supporting national efforts toward environmental protection and the mitigation of environmental impacts. He added that the Ministry of Works' efforts also encompass enhancing the efficiency of water resource utilization by expanding the use of treated water and developing the networks for its transport and distribution. This water is utilized for irrigation and new projects, thereby improving the efficiency of water resource management and ensuring the sustainability of afforestation initiatives.
HE Eng. Ebrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj emphasized that "Tree Week" serves as a national occasion to embed a culture of afforestation and foster community participation in environmental initiatives. He noted that the Ministry remains committed to supporting projects and initiatives that integrate urban development requirements with the preservation of the environment and natural resources, in alignment with sustainable development goals.
