The Ministry of Works has announced the opening of new turn lanes on National Charter Highway at its intersection with Al-Muaskar Highway and Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Highway. This initiative is part of a project to upgrade turn lanes, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and accommodating the increasing volume of vehicles across the road network.

The project involved constructing new turn lanes connecting National Charter Highway and Al-Muaskar Highway, spanning over 800 meters. These new lanes are now open to traffic, facilitating smoother vehicle movement in the area.

The Ministry noted that the project also included relocating and protecting existing infrastructure utilities, installing street lighting, and establishing a rainwater drainage network connected to the area's main drainage system.

Opening these new lanes will contribute to improved traffic flow and reduced congestion on Al-Muaskar Highway, particularly for traffic heading west toward Riffa or east toward Sitra via Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Highway. The capacity of the lanes has increased from 1,600 vehicles per hour prior to the project to 2,600 vehicles per hour following the expansion—an increase of 62.5%.

The Ministry confirmed that work is ongoing to complete the remaining requirements, with the project scheduled for full completion by the end of the year. The Ministry of Works called upon the public, residents, and road users to adhere to traffic signs and guidelines, and to follow the traffic management arrangements at the work site, in the interest of everyone's safety.
