HE the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf toured Muharraq Ring Road Expansion Project site; the part located between Hidd Interchange and the Interchange of Amwaj entrance and Galali. The Minister was accompanied by Special Projects Chief Eng. Mohammed Mohsin and a number of engineers from the Ministry. The project is now 75% complete.

The Minister explained that the present phase of the project comprises of expanding the road at the part extending from Amwaj Entrance to Hidd Entrance from two lanes at each direction to three lanes at each direction, in order to accommodate the current progress at both the Northern and Southern parts of the road. The project will also include revamping Hidd Interchange, creating a new entrance at the Eastern side of the interchange to provide access to investment and commercial complexes in the area. The total length of the present phase is 3km. Work commenced in February, 15,  2017. The BD1,870,330 contracting works were awarded to Down Town Contracting, while construction works are supervised by the Works Ministry's engineers.

During the tour, the Minister commended the project, which aims to aims to provide safe and quick access to villages adjacent to the project, such as Hidd, Dair, Samaheej and Galali. It will also provide access to investment housing projects like Amwaj, Dilmunia and Diyyar Al Muharraq. The project is also considered an extension to Muharraq's 4th flyover; connecting Diyar Al Muharraq and Busaiteen.

Works also involve upgrading the existing traffic signal, implementing new lighting system, upgrading the storm water drainage system, protecting existing services and installing pedestrian barriers.
