In line with the UN delegation’s tour, represented by 15 countries, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to highlight Bahrain’s model in the field of eGovernment Initiatives Development and organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the Ministry of Works shed light on their experience in implementing the Strategic Information Systems Plan and moving towards the adoption of electronic services.
Information Technology Director Hisham Sater delivered a presentation highlighting the Ministry’s example in implementing the strategy aiming to shift to electronic services with the aid of information technology.
‘The Ministry is keen to implement innovative plans in order to find sustainable solutions to reduce environment pollution and carbon footprint; in line with the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 that take into consideration health and safety whether on the individual and group level or the public environment level,’ said Sater.
‘In order to achieve this objective, the Ministry has implemented a number of electronic systems and applications that reduce paper usage in communication and data storage and archiving, such as the electronic communication system, document archiving and storage system, project management electronic system, electronic follow up system, electronic human resources systems, virtual servers and computers and the electronic office initiative.’ he added.
Sater also explained that the Information Technology Directorate at the Ministry is working on establishing an information technology strategic plan based on the present and future needs, in coordination with the Top Management and various directorates at the Ministry. The initiative aims to keep pace with international and local standards and best practices in the field.
