The Ministry of Works, represented by the Roads Planning & Design Directorate, has recently operated 5 new traffic signals in Hidd and Arad in coordination with the Traffic General Directorate and Muharraq Municipal Council. The new traffic signals are located at the Interchange of Hidd Western Ring Road and Road 4402, Hidd Western Ring Road and Avenue 44 Interchange, Avenue 44 and Road 4409 and Road 4335 Interchange, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway and Road 1509 Interchange, and Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway and Road 1511 Interchange.

Roads Planning & Design Director Eng. Khadim Abdul Latif said that the traffic signals have been designed and installed following the completion of necessary traffic surveys and assessment of the areas at which the signals are located, and also due to the increase in traffic at those intersections.

‘The new traffic signals are operated using the latest internationally acknowledged electronic devices, and also operate on LED lights, which are known for high clarity and brightness. LED lights save energy and contribute to increasing safety levels,’ said Abdul Latif.

‘All traffic signals in the Kingdom of Bahrain operate on an automatic system that detects traffic on any interchange using ground sensors; thus determining duration of the green light on each direction, which eventually reduces the wait at the signal.’ he added.

The total number of intersections controlled by traffic signals in Bahrain amounted to 321 intersections. 2 new traffic signals have been designed at Avenue 46 in Arad, and will soon be operated.
