Roads Planning & Design Director Eng. Kadhim Abdul Latif revealed that the Ministry has completed the annual traffic field surveys for the year 2013, which detected 816,000 vehicles entering Manama on a daily basis; compared to 750,000 vehicles in 2012. ‘Manama is the city with the highest rate of traffic, while Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway witnessed the least traffic concentration in comparison to all other roads in the Kingdom. 164,000 vehicles travel along Skaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway on a daily basis, compared to 145,000 vehicles in 2012,’ said Abdul Latif.
‘The statistics also revealed that 243,000 vehicles enter Muharraq Governorate every day via the 3 causeways; with a 10% rise compared to year 2008. Over 500,000 vehicles enter the Central Governorate every day, while the Southern Governorate attracts 216,000 vehicles daily.’ he added. The Northern Governorate attracts 798,000 vehicles every day, with a significant rise in the number of vehicles compared to the period from 2008-2013. The capital has 10 main entrances and is considered to be the city with the highest traffic concentration.
Shaikh Hamad Causeway registered 96,000 vehicles daily; with an estimated rise of 13,000 vehicles compared to year 2012. Shaikh Isa bin Salman Causeway registered 78,000 vehicles, while 70,000 vehicles travelled along Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Causeway; with a 20% increase compared to year 2008. 164,000 vehicles pass through Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway, and 155,000 vehicles through Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway.
