HE Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, Minister of Works received at the Ministry office HE Salman Hamad Al Shaikh, member of the Council of Representatives to discuss topics related to the infrastructure in the Northern Governorate. During the meeting, Mr. Al Shaikh raised a number of topics related to the requirements of different constituencies in the Northern Area. One of the key demands requested by the MP was the need to build a sanitary drainage network at Block 527, in the Saar area. In response, the Minister confirmed that the project was in the design phase and the project was scheduled to go ahead in the second half of 2014.
 
Mr. Salman Al Shaikh also called for the widening of Saar main road which is the scene of many serious accidents. In response, the Minister said the Ministry has already conducted a study for widening the road and the designs have been completed. Rebuilding the road is part of the road development programme set for the 2013-2014 state budget appropriations. In co-ordination with the Ministry of Municipalities & Urban Planning, the Ministry of Works has partially acquired certain land areas required for widening the road. The Minister noted that the Ministry would convert the road into a two-carriageway with the installation of traffic lights on the key junctions. The project is set to be included in the 2013-2014 state budget appropriations.
