The Ministry of Works (MoW), the Kingdom’s infrastructure developer, has taken a boost in its already leading project management capabilities by the ‘go-live’ of the Project Management Information System (PMIS). The new system will be operated by the Project Management Office (PMO) upon the completion of the PMIS project for management of reporting for project progress at the program level. Currently undergoing real-time trials, the system provides an Oracle-based tool with the ability to integrate with other management systems in the MoW, designed to offer a world-class fully operational professional Project Management Information System, serving the MoW and sharing expertise and information throughout the public sector.
Ahmad Al Khayat, Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Services, believes that “Professional Project Management is one of the most effective ways of ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery of projects. Through this initiative, we are following our corporate objective towards excellence in Project Management Practices, which is aligned with the National Strategy Map and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. It is also in compliance with directives issued by the Centre of Excellence towards improving quality and efficiency in delivery of Government services. Our project management professionals will share their experience and expertise with other PMOs in the Government, to ensure reporting levels are raised to the highest international standards, and this new PMIS is a major step in that direction.”
The PMO at the Ministry serves as a Centre of Excellence and is currently acting as a change agent , by coaching, training and developing project management capabilities to the project community which consists of Project Managers, Team Members and Sponsors. This transfer of skills also includes vital project lifecycle planning abilities through the Ministry’s approved framework, the Project Management System (PMS). This initiative moves the public sector forward towards a fully integrated system for streamlined project reporting and maximizing the benefits of the completed programs.
