1 PART 1 MATERIALS 1.1 General Requirements The Contractor shall supply all necessary plant, labour, materials and equipment required for the completion of the Soft Landscape Works. Sufficient labour shall be provided at all times to complete the works to the Programme and the quality expected. The Contractor shall provide sufficient personnel and equipment to perform all work in a professional and workmanlike manner to the satisfaction of the Engineer and in keeping with horticultural best practice and techniques. The Contractor shall supply a list of personnel for the Contract from managerial level, to supervise site foremen and general operatives. Staff must be able to prove their skills in horticulture and have worked in arid environments with experience of the implementation and maintenance of soft landscape Contracts. A close working relationship must be established with the irrigation personnel to co-ordinate the installation, scheduling and maintenance requirements of the irrigation system. Before the commencement of any work, the Contractor shall check and verify all dimensions and the condition of areas to be planted and shall inform the Engineer of any discrepancies between the drawings and/or Specifications and actual conditions. No work shall be undertaken in any area where there are discrepancies or where conditions are unsuitable for planting, until approval has been obtained from the Engineer. The whole of the works shall be executed in a safe, orderly and workmanlike manner to the satisfaction of the Engineer and the Employer. Any work rejected as a result of non- compliance with the Specification shall be removed and replaced at the Contractor's expense. The Contractor shall clear away all unused materials and waste as the work proceeds and upon completion. The quantities of plants – trees, palms, shrubs, groundcover and grassed areas – as detailed in the contract documents shall be checked by the Contractor. The Contractor shall be responsible for the correct ordering of items and their setting out on site. The Contractor shall be responsible for ensuring that the numbers of plants - trees, palms, shrubs, groundcover and grass areas - at final handover of the works, are as detailed on the Drawings, or as otherwise agreed with the Engineer on site. The Contractor must consult and co-ordinate with all the relevant public utility authorities before the commencement of excavations and confirm the exact line and location of all service runs. All services shown on the Landscape Drawings should be treated as a ‘guide’ only and should under no circumstances be considered as accurate. Any damage to services during excavation, soiling or planting operations shall be the total responsibility of the Contractor. 1.2 Inspections All inspections shall be undertaken by the Engineer. The Contractor shall request inspection at least two (2) weeks in advance of the time the inspection is required. Inspections will be required for the following stages of work: • • • • • • At the time of planting bed/medium preparation During final grading and soil preparation Plant material after delivery to site and prior to planting As trees are marked and set out for planting prior to excavation of tree pits During installation of irrigation and at completion As tree pits are excavated prior to backfilling Page 7
