The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning has announced the completion of work on the establishment of a new exit from the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Causeway to Busaiteen, within efforts to cope with the urban growth in Busaiteen, in particular, and north Muharraq areas, in general.

The implementation of the project follows directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to reduce traffic congestion across the Kingdom, Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, said.

The minister asserted that the completed project is the third phase of the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Causeway's Intersection Development Project from Road 2841, noting that a new exist was added from the Shaikh Isa Causeway, thus creating new lanes that will allow access to the Busaiteen area and ease traffic pressure on the Al-Ghous Highway.

The new access point will contribute to reducing traffic congestion by directing those heading to Busaiteen from the Airport Avenue and Al-Ghous Highway to the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Causeway, where they have to turn right towards Busaiteen, he said.

The new exit will ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area, with its residential and commercial units and outlets, meet the needs to have quick access to the King Hamad University Hospital and the Sayh Island and allow road users to enter the area directly from the Shaikh Isa Causeway, thus reducing the trip's duration.

Khalaf said that the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry had, upon directives from HRH the Crown Prince, opened Road 2841 last year, within the first phase of the comprehensive plan to reduce traffic congestions and ensure the smooth flow of traffic across the main road networks.

The project included the establishment of a separate 411-metre exit from the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Causeway towards Busaiteen, and connecting it with Road 2841, he added, noting that the service lines along the exit, including electricity and water, were moved and protected, a new road lighting was installed, and the beautification agriculture along the Shaikh Isa Causeway and near the work site was modified, in coordination with the Muharraq Municipality.

The minister asserted that the maximum capacity of the new road will reach up to 1800 vehicles per hour for each direction, thus attracting part of the traffic travelling along Al-Ghous Highway and also reducing congestion by 40 per cent.

It is expected that 620 vehicles will travel along the road during the morning peak hour, while 750 vehicles will use the same road during the afternoon peak hour and 500 vehicles per hour during evening time, he explained.
