WORKS MINISTER INSPECTS WORK PROGRESS IN MUHARRAQ RING ROAD EXPANSION PROJECT

HE the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visited Muharraq Ring Road location, located between the Hidd Interchange and the entrance to Amwaj and Galali. The Minister was accompanied by Roads Projects & Maintenance Director Eng. Sayyed Bader Alawi and a number of engineers from the Ministry. The project is now 35% complete.

 

During the visit, the Minister commended the project, which aims to provide safe and easy access to the villages in the vicinity of the project; namely Hidd, Dair, Samaheej and Galali. Also, the project will also provide access to the entrances and exits of the investment housing projects such as Amwaj, Dilmunia and Diyyar Al Muharraq. The project is also considered to be an extension to the Muharraq Fourth Bridge that links Busiateen and Diyyar Al Muharraq.

 

The Minister explained that the current phase of Muharraq Ring Road Project comprises of expanding the road at the part extending from the entrance to Amwaj to Hidd entrance from twon lanes at each direction to three lanes at each direction. Work also includes revamping Hidd Interchange and constructing a new access point to the East of the interchange, which leads to the investment and commercial complexes in the area. In addition to that, the existing traffic signal will be adjusted, a new lighting system will be implemented, and the storm water drainage network will be improved, besides protecting the existing services and installing pedestrian barriers for safety purposes.

 

The present expansion phase amounts to 3km long. It commenced in February 2017 and will continue until October. The Project contractor is Down Town, while the construction works are supervised by a group of engineers from the Ministry. The cost of the project is BD1,870,330.

 

Upcoming works involved in the project will include constructing concrete barriers for safety purposes, after which the paving of the third lane will commence. Also, the present Hidd Avenue Interchange will be revamped by constructing a new entrance to Hidd Industrial Area.
