ABDUL LATIF: ‘COMPLETION OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL DESIGNS FOR SIX INTERSECTIONS’

Roads Planning & Design Director of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Kadhem Abdul Latif stated that during the first half of this year, the Ministry has completed the designs of traffic signals at 6 intersections, aiming to enhance traffic safety.

Abdul Latif explained that the intersections are namely Hunainiya Interchange with Road No. 1 in Riffa, Hunainiya Avenue Interchange with Road 303 in Riffa, Avenue 58 Interchange with Avenue 50 in Qalali, Prince Saoud Al Faisal Highway Interchange with its side road in Juffair, Prince Saoud Al Faisal Highway Interchange with Avenue 22 in Juffair, and Saoud Al Faisal Highway Interchange with Road 2631 in Juffair.  The designs have been transferred to the concerned parties and will commence once the needed budget is allocated.

Abdul Latif also explained that the drawings of 4 other intersections have been amended. He explained that the Ministry also reviewed the designs for traffic signals at 50 intersections, which have been prepared by the Ministry's consultants. During the middle of this year, traffic signals for 4 intersections were installed and operated. The intersections are Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway Interchange with the entrance to Mondaliza Factory in Hidd Industrial Area, Avenue 22 Interchange with Road 2407 in Juffair,Al Farooq Interchange in Manama and the Refinery Avenue Interchange with the entrance to BAPCO in Ma'ameer Industrial Area. The total number of traffic controlled intersections is 343.

According to Abdul Latif, the total number of reports and proposals that the Ministry has received in relation to traffic signals defects amounted to 1389 reports, during the first half of this year. The Ministry responded to 75% of the reports and took the necessary procedures in less than an hour, while 25% of the reports have been handled in over an hour; depending on the nature of the work that needed to be done and the time needed to monitor the traffic signals.
