Roads Projects & Maintenance Director of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Sayyed Bader Alawi stated that work on the Alba & Nuwaidrat Interchange Project is progressing well. The project, according to Alawi, is funded by the Arab Gulf Program for Development, specifically Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Alawi explained that the Ministry has managed to install all 152 pillars on the interchange, in addition to 8 castings out of a total of 14 castings for the West Flyover. Also, 97 pillars have been installed on the Alba Roundabout location, prior to completing the casting of the 2 flyovers in the upcoming phase.

Following the delay for vehicles coming from King Hamad Highway towards Alba Roundabout; resulting from traffic diversions on site in September 2016, the Ministry created an exit along King Hamad Highway towards Refinement Avenue and on to Nuwaidrat Roundabout via Avenue 15. The Exit was created in mid-January 2017 in collaboration with the Traffic General Directorate; aiming to ease congestion along King Hamad Highway. The exit is part of Alba & Nuwaidrat Interchange revamp works.

Alawi also stated that work is presently underway to divert the gas lines and extensions along Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Avenue, in addition to diverting the main water lines conflicting with some of the pillars for Alba Flyover. In the coming few days, the first concrete castings for Alba upper flyover will be installed.
