Under the patronage of HE the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, a lecture titled 'Colon Cancer' was held at the Ministry. The lecture was delivered by Chairman of Bahrain Cancer Society Dr. Adbul Rahman Fakhro as part of the Gulf Cancer Awareness Week.
Dr. Fakhro lauded the Minister Khalaf's encouragement to such awareness lectures, whether related to health or professional issues. After that, Dr. Fakhro started the lecture by defining cancer; pointing out that it is a group of over a 100 different disease, which occurs when cells begin to take an abnormal behavior different from its natural origins. He also referred to the most common cancers among males and females in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and explained the various types of childhood cancers.
He also talked about the fear that an individual faces when confronted with the disease, noting that the cancer patient should always be hopeful and optimistic in order to be able to confront and defeat this disease, especially knowing that curing the disease is now much more advances than before; according to statistics.
As for the types of check-ups that should be made, Dr. Fakhro divided them into 2 types, the complete check-up for all the individuals that fall into a specific age group, and the selective check-up that targets the individuals who are susceptible to the danger of cancer.
Dr. Fakhro also referred to factors that increase the risk of cancer, diagnosis ways and methods of treatment.
At the end of the lecture, attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions.
