Salem Isa Al Musaifar, a Ministry of Works computer specialist in the IT Directorate took part in a trip to the Himalayas to reach half way to the top of Mount Everest at a height of 4,800 metres during the period from 27th May to 2nd June, 2012. Being proud of his country and in a gesture of belonging to the Ministry of Works, he raised the Bahraini flag and Ministry’s logo on the middle peak of Mount Everest.
In a statement, Al Musaifar said the idea occurred to him a few days before taking off from Bahrain and when he told his colleagues about it, he received their full support. The trip was designed to highlight the Gulf unity slogan “Gulf Nationals to the Himalayas” and motivating them to show their determination and ambition to achieve their goals by overcoming difficulties through trekking across the Himalayas.
The GCC delegation comprised 18 members who included Salem Al Musaifar, who is also a youth activist. In remarks, Al Musaifar said the adventure to the Himalayas was unique in its kind and enabled him to gain new skills and values from which he would learn in his professional & personal life. Such values include self- reliance, planning in life, time management, setting priorities, making use of all the available resources to achieve objectives, courage and adventure for success, communication skills and team work. Such values enable one to be useful to others and to have a sense of patriotism and enjoyment of meditation.
