ASMA MURAD APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE MINISTRY OF WORKS’ EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES COMMITTEE

Sanitary Engineering Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Asma Murad has been appointed as Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Committee at the Works Affairs. The committee aims to integrate needs of the Bahraini women at all sectors of the Ministry.

Murad extended thanks to HE th​e Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf for his faith in women and their ability to achieve and succeed on all levels. She also commended the Ministry's efforts to take care of the Bahraini women, represented by all those responsible for implementing the National Model for integrating women's needs within the Government's work agenda; headed by wife to HM the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Women HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

The committee's main objective is integrating needs of the Bahraini women at all sectors of the Ministry, enhancing equality of opportunities in appointment, training, scholarship, job progression and providing needs of the working women, in addition to integrating needs of women within the Ministry's policies, plans and budget. The percentage of women occupying leading positions at the Ministry's Works Affairs is 40%.

The committee has been formed in line with the Ministry's commitment to applying the Civil Service Bureau's law No.4 of the Year 2014 regarding forming the equal opportunities committee in all government institutions, in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Women. The initiative primarily aims to integrate women's needs within the Government's work agenda and all national policies and strategies, in addition to developing and activating administrative systems and ensuring the application of all laws and decrees related to the equality of opportunities on all levels at the Ministry.

As for the work plan, Murad reiterated that the plan is to conform to the National Plan prepared by the Supreme Council for Women. The committee specializes in putting in place the plans and restrictions related to equality of opportunities. Also, the committee will work on improving women's work conditions and overcoming the challenges that may hinder the application of the equal opportunities principle, in coordination with the Supreme Council for Women. ​
