MoW’s Roads Projects & Maintenance Director Eng. Raed Al Salah revealed that the Ministry is presently preparing for the casting of concrete segments along Seef and Al Farooq Flyovers as safety barriers. Al Salah explained that a total of 3m long 446 concrete segments are being produced and cast at Bahrain Asphalt Factory, to whom the project was awarded at a cost of BD694,600. The concrete barriers are to be implemented at a length of 1350m. According to Al Salah, the replacement of metal barriers with concrete barriers is done based on a recommendation from a committee that has been formed for the purpose of increasing safety levels along flyovers in the Kingdom. The Committee visited all flyovers in the Kingdom.

Together with the aid of a leading consulting company in the field, the Committee recommended replacing all metal barriers with concrete barriers. The Ministry of Works later put in place a programme to inspect all barriers and determine which ones need to be replaced from a construction and technical perspectives. The first study targeted both Seef and Al Farooq Flyovers. As a precaution measure, the Ministry previously implemented temporary concrete barriers along Seef and Al Farooq Intersections, and also along other similar Intersections such as Isa Town Gate Flyover and Wali Al Ahad Flyover in Hamad Town. Based on recommendations from the Committee, concrete barriers will be used for future flyover projects for safety reasons. The Ministry of Works reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and speed limits to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of all vehicle drivers.
