WORKS MINISTRY COMMENCES WORK ON THE RING ROAD PROJECT LOCATED BETWEEN ROUNDABOUTS 13 & 18

HE the Minister of Works Eng. Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf announced the commencement of works on the 2nd intersection along Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway and the highway linking Roundabouts 13 & 18. The new intersection will link all access points in Hamad Town to the main roads network in the Kingdom. The project comprises of creating a 2 direction flyover with 2 lanes on each direction. The new 24.2m wide flyover is to pass over the Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway at a length of 280km. Works also include constructing a 2 way road with 2 lanes on each direction at a length of 1.5m; connecting Roundabouts 13 to 18 in Hamad Town. This will alleviate traffic congestion along Sh. Hamad Highway and other internal roads in Hamad Town.
 
The project will also help reduce traffic congestions and the amount of traffic heading from Hamad Town towards Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway through the intersection parallel to Roundabout 14 by 40%. Presently, 3500 vehicle/hour travels along the intersection parallel to Roundabout 14 during the peak hours. This access point is the second main entrance to Hamad Town from Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway. Traffic along Sh. Hamad Highway, the part located between Roundabout 18 and Zallaq, is estimated to be 25,000 vehicles each day. The new project is expected to reduce traffic congestions by 28%. The Ministry of Works completed the pre-qualification of local and international contractors in coordination with the Saudi Fund for Development. The winning companies have been notified to present their bids. TheBD7,466,958 phase 1 was awarded to a coalition made of Al Yamama Company and Nass Contracting from Saudi Arabia.
